Summer is here! It’s the perfect time to make memories and have fun with your child, whether that’s by going on a family vacation or just setting aside some time to spend together. However, summertime can be tough when it regularly goes into the triple digits. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to have fun indoors – or safely outdoors! So what are some fun summer activities for your Arizona preschooler?
Summer Activities for Preschoolers
Summer is the perfect time to get creative and active with your children. Explore your community, try new things, and most importantly – make memories that you and your family will cherish forever!
Not only are summer activities fun, but they’re also important. Encouraging your child to participate in activities both with friends and family and by themselves will build your child’s self-confidence, independence skills, and keep them learning even when they aren’t in a classroom.
How Do You Entertain a 4-Year-Old in the Summer?
Keeping young children entertained can be quite the challenge, especially if they’re high energy. It’s extra tricky in the summertime, when preschool isn’t keeping them engaged and helping them burn off energy during the day.
Arts and crafts, playing with toys, and moderate amounts of educational TV and video games are a great way to keep your child entertained, along with outings like visiting parks, museums, and restaurants – but what about when you’re stuck at home, or need to get things done? Try letting your kids help you out with chores and errands, setting up playdates with other kids their age, and encouraging them to play by themselves or with siblings.
What Can Toddlers Do in Phoenix in the Summer?
Phoenix is a big city, and there’s no shortage of fun things to do here. But it gets much trickier when you’re trying to find things to do with toddlers in 100-degree heat.
If you’re looking for age-appropriate fun that won’t cause you to melt, try the Arizona Science Center, the Children’s Museum, or the Crayola Experience. If you’re willing to pack lots of water and sunscreen, a public pool or the Phoenix Zoo are great options for outdoor fun, as well as heading to your local park for some playground fun.
What Do You Teach Preschoolers in the Summer?
Learning isn’t confined to the classroom, and teaching your child is a fantastic way to bond and have fun together in the summer months! What are some of the best activities to do together for fun learning this summer?
- All About Nature: Summer is a great time to get outdoors and learn all about nature. Look at wild animals, collect leaves and pinecones, and see how many different bugs you can find, all while having fun and teaching your preschooler about nature.
- Sensory Play: Preschoolers love sensory play, and it’s incredibly beneficial to their development. Sensory play is fun, relaxing, and educational, all in one. Sand, fruit, and sensory balls are great ways to get some sensory play in during the summer.
- Swimming: Is there anything more fun than swimming in the summer? The toddler and preschool years are a great time to teach your child how to swim, but if you’re more comfortable keeping them in the baby pool for a couple more years, that’s also a fun option.
- Storytime: If the excessive heat is keeping you indoors, reading stories together is a great way to pass the time. Books are incredibly beneficial to your child’s development, not to mention lots of fun! You can even come up with your own stories together, or head to a local library or bookstore for a storytime event.
Whether you’re ready for summer or dreading the heat, summer is a fun and exciting time for any child. Make the most of it with these activities for your preschooler that will keep them entertained, engaged, and learning – even when school’s not in session.
